Spelled "self-righteous" it means to believe that oneself is perfect and without sin. To claim to be self-righteous (or act it) is very arrogant; people will judge you in a negative way if you project this type of behavior. Here's a hint: No one is self-righteous but a lot of people act as though they are. Those that act it are highly mistaken. It's called being humble!!!

The correct spelling is "righteous", so if you look at that word, the root is "right", & self, of course, means something about you. In this case, self-righteous means feeling morally superior about yourself in relation to others. In other words, you feel yourself to be right regarding an issue of morality!

well, the spelling is self-righteous; when a person is said to be self-righteous it is implied that that person feels as though they possess the true meaning, the "right" opinion, etc. By the way, the term "self-righteous" is never used as a compliment, as in "what a self-righteous #$@%!"

I think you mean self-righteous:
Websters dictionary says "convinced of one's own righteousness"
But you may not know what righteousness is so:
Websters says righteousness is "acting in accord with divine or moral law"
Notice that righteousness starts with the word "right". So in summary self-righteous people believe they are right, but the word generally has a negative conotation of being closed-minded and egotistical.

Hi, it's self righteous and it means people who only see things through their beliefs and believe that everyone else is beneath them for not believing their way.

In my estimation it means thinking more highly of yourself than you should, being high and puffed up.An example would be a person who would think that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.... Pardon me, I'am old school.
