I think it's true. It means the love is real on both sides, and thus, all the better.
Of course, the cynic in me is screaming that if they come back, they're just a big enemy, cause "the friend is close, but the enemy is brought that much closer."

I think it's true, because you can't make someone love you, and if you set them free, they would stay anyway if they loved you, and if they left, then they didn't really love you and your better off without them.

I believe if reminds you that you can not force anyone into loving or staying with you. If it is meant to be, they will return and you will appreciate that all the more.
