Forlorn, why would this be scary? What is scary is dating someone you don't know, then find out that they are a rapist, child molestor, serial killer, etc when it's too late. Or you find out, when it's too late, that there are other things on their records that you wish you had known. In this day and age, I would definitely want to check up on someone I met and was wanting to date. I just couldn't do it because it always cost money.

Your strange!
Do you do back round checks on every person you date? why do you feel that because he is American you should do this check!
If he finds out that not only you not trust him but that your looking through his past rather than asking him its going to cause big problems!!
One more point if you think this person is so scary that you need to do a back round check on him, Why are you going out with him??

You can can also search the County Records where she lives. Some of that is available online. If you know her address, you can find out what county she lives in. Good luck!
