you can apply for other aspects of the job and if you really want to make an issue out of it...the physical automatically disqualifies Americans with disabilities...so it violates the Americans with disabilities act...you could take legal action against the force on the basis if you are refused...because there is plenty of desk work and research work for those of us who cant jog fifty miles.
generally how ever you can apply in other aspects of the EMS field like 911 operator, and ambulance driver...As am ems worker my self the best advice i can give is to try to get in the shape you need, and if you get turned down and still want to pursue it fight for it.

No, you cannot become a street officer, or a prison officer (if that is what you mean) The disabilities act would not cover you for a job that would actually require you to complete a task beyond your physical abilities. However, the physical does not exclude you from becoming a crime scene tech, dispatcher, etc. Some of those jobs are great ways to get into the department and give you time to get physically fit so you can do what you want to do.

no. you could be a dispatcher or something but not a police officer.
