The vast majority of music produced now is just carbon copies of stuff that made money years ago. The music industry has given up on taking chances and things like lyrics with true meaning or something new and unusual is just too big a risk for them to take. In essence they are "teaching to the test." The music industry is worried more about money than anything else, Cradle of Filth was picked up because they had good T-shirt sales. Then they were dropped because they had to censor their t-shirts and sales went down.

I don't know. I personally think that it sucks, the fact that no one cares any more. it's sad that a person can throw some words to music and call it a song. Music was better when the lyrics to a song actually meant something, when they were important. Now all a person has to do to make it in the music world is be able to talk very fast and very badly and then put that to a beat. It's getting kinda pathetic.

I have actually come to like the lyrics to some of my mom's oldies--but have also noted some actual lyrics in my brother's rap. My eldest brother plays with a heavy metal group, and there are some in there too. My other brother and his wife listen to country and Christian--and some are good.
So, I've been exposed to several genres, and actually like some songs in each. I watch a lot of old movies, and have found lyrics in some of the songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s to be pretty good as well.

No, lyrics don't seem to matter much anymore and the ability to read/write music and talent seems to be optional too. Fortunately for today's artists, if that is what you want to call them; not knowing much about either does not seem to affect job security or staying power.

Well to kids lyrics still and will always matter because they like to have there friends at school walking down the hall singing. In the Elementary Schools you are like super cool if you have like your own little group that sings music together at recess and down the hall.

It doesn't matter what the lyrics sounds like. As long as it as an awesome beat and great instruments and can make people have a party

lyrics matter to me
but to some people it doesn't
in "rap" music
barely anyone listens to the lyrics
(which are disgusting)
they only listen to the beat
and that's what gets them
i listen to both the music and the lyrics

they do in certain genre's. Its this hip hop crap that is giving all music a bad name. I listen to rock, and there is a song on the radio that is terrible...not for the language, but its poorly written...its called crazy *****. Besides that...rap crap like my humps and don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me...where the hell is the originality! Its like a one hit wonder factory somewhere is just throwing all this crap out to make a buck. Forget how beautiful music really is.....

Because the so called music today is so loud you can't understand what they're suppose to be singing in the first place. Be just as well off listening to a scratchy record

Oh, I don't know.
A lot depends on the genre.
Not that I'm a fan, but rap seems to focus on the lyrics just as much (if not more than) the beat.
