Definitely. The 'Gothic' trend can have many interpretations. Sometimes it's just a preference for black and/or dark colors, and rich materials such as satin, brocade, and velvet. This is influenced by classic historical fashion.
Sometimes a 'Goth' prefers dressing to rebel, by sporting numerous piercings and/or tattoos; clothing that has been purposely torn or frayed; and possibly controversial jewelry such as skulls, dragons, arcane symbols, etc.
Mostly, it's just a sense of personal style. Some people view this type of style as death-obsessed; and while, like anything else, it can be carried to an extreme, for most people, the 'Gothic' style is just their way of interpreting themselves.
Most of the 'Gothic' people I have known are intelligent, thoughtful, have a passion for learning, and are very creative. They think outside of the box and are comfortable living their life out of the norm. Nothing wrong with individuality!

Steven P. said it best with the symptoms. Goth is a subculture, just like most other types of stereotypes. Something I've noticed is Goths like to dress a certain way and change their attitude to "I don't care about anything." I don't know, it seems to me the thought of not caring about anything is just lame, what's the point of living if you don't care about anything?

For some people, Goth might just be a style, they might not be sucked into the Goth perspective of life.

Eric: impressive! XD *intense 5* There are numerous i wager, off the properly of my head i'm able to purely call/describe a really few: The victorian age style, the cutesy style (i'm wondering more desirable like G-Lolita), cyber goth (<--AWSOME relaxing), seen kei (no longer effective it counts yet why no longer)... won't be able to imagine of a few thing else top this second yet yeah, there is lots, yet my well-known ones (besides the cyber goths) are those that blend and tournament even with they experience like donning~ :D

I think Goth is more than just a style. It's is in a sense like hip hop as in it is a way of life.

It's a lifestyle, an outlook, a point of view. If you want more information, review some of my old posts and/or visit goth.net. And someone who dresses 'goth' without taking part in the defining intellectual process is, I'm sorry to say, a poser.

I have NEVER seen goth in any VOGUE or STYLE magazine. I would say its a type (maybe grow out of by the time you graduate high school)

No, its a disease only acquired by the stupid and those who crave attention.

The symptoms are
1) Increase in lethargy
2)Increase in black / white makeup / hair dye
3) Decrease in talking / knowledge
4) Lack of taste in music, clothing, and social awareness
5) A general overall stupidity
6) A silent craving for attention
7) An increase in negative feedback
