The Egg.
Answer 1 - Reptiles were laying eggs millions of years before birds ever existed. Therefore, the egg predates the chicken.
Answer 2 - Assuming Darwin and Evolution, the first Chicken would have to have been a mutated offspring of some kind of 'Proto-Chicken'. This 'Proto-Chicken' would certainly have been almost exactly like a chicken except for one subtle genetic difference. It can be assumed that the proto-chicken would have laid eggs, and that the first actual chicken would be born from an egg, therefore, the egg came before the chicken.

I would say the chicken. If it "evolved" then it couldn't really evolve from an egg could it?
