He's the worst of the prominent NBA players. Some others have been worse statistically, but none of them got the minutes and in turn took far less free throws.

I think a number of the very tall centers (Kareem, Manute Bol, Olajawon, etc) did not have good stats on free throws. But Shaq is the worst. And he's not afraid to say it either...

No Wilt Chamberlin was worse and even of today's players Piston's center Ben Wallace is worse. Shaq was actually close to %50 one year that is not all that bad. Not good either!

Yes because he's not amenable to trying other methods such as underhand (like Wilt finally did) or flexing his seemingly unbendable wrist. He stubbornly refuses changing his style, which keeps hack-a-Shaq one of the better defensive late-game options out there.

there are diverse gamers that qualify...yet in case you ask maximum basketball followers they might say Shaq yet there are others inclusive of Ben Wallace...and maximum undesirable loose throw shooters are skill forwards and centers
