Don't be afraid of rejection. Get to know what they like doing and learn about it. (Favorite music group, food, hobbies etc.) Then go do something together. That way you can enjoy time with them and maybe just tell them then you like them. But I would really wait for a second date or something. So you can relax and breath to get ready and make it more special the next time.
