jsut because you bought it from kmart doesn't mean it's worthless... you can purchase a crib with defects from a crib store... anyway... if you have a babies r us or maybe a childrens room store. traget walmart. and the only way i think to see if it's safe is to do research online and see what consumers had to say about them... good luck

Try to see if you can find a baby specialty store that specializes in baby furniture. One thing you want to know is if it is JPMA certified. JPMA is a company that helps to regulate baby products. One store our store competes with is babys r us. There are many different styles and colors to choose from. At least you have a budget of what you want to spend. And $300 is about average for a very good crib that is going to last you a long time. Also another important thing is your crib mattress. Expect to pay about $100 for a very good mattress. Please dont buy the ones from walmart, target, shopko. They are not firm, and these mattresses actually puts you at risk of sids. When you go to a baby store or someplace, if they cant explain to you the benefits of the mattresses they sell, dont buy it. The company we sell lots of is Baby's Dream. The crib i like the most is in your price range is called the Infinity Lifestyle crib. This crib is a 3 in 1. You dont have to buy a conversion kit to convert to the toddler stage. And when you are ready for the full size stage, this crib will take metal adult rails. So you dont have to pay $99 for the wood adult rails if you dont want to.
