They're not dumb, but I think some of them are lacking in people skills

Greetings
I am not a scientist but I do not believe scientists are not dumb. What I do believe is they know that even though they have learned a lot of information and may seem so smart, they also know how many more questions there are that they do not know the answers for. For every book they read that answers one question, they may get 10 more unanswered questions in return. This is not a true answer but it is a answer.

Well, gee, why the heck are scientists dumb? Becuase they don't accept the traditional Hebrew account of the origin of the universe? Because they talk and write in a language no one understands? Because they just deal in facts and not in beliefs and emotions? Golly gee, that question is a real poser.

And, uh, dumber than which other group did you have in mind?

And with all those advanced degrees in "liberal" studies like Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Astronomy and Chemistry it's no wonder they are just dumb, dumb, dumb.

Why does everyone think scientists are socially inept? That's a terrible stereotype, right up there with 'all blonds are bimbos' or 'all athletes are stupid.' Scientists are just like everyone else - some are popular, some are nerdy, some believe in God, some don't, some are so pompous they practically seem to think they are god (but I know plenty of non-scientists who fit that last description). My point is, unless you know lots of scientists (or any other type of person) you shouldn't make such generalizations.

They're not. I know a lot of scientists who are really smart. The problem they have is that they THINK they're so smart. That kind of makes them aloof or lack people skills. They are convinced that science is God, and that isn't smart, but that doesn't make them dumb. We all have to realize that science, scientists, and the scientific method are not perfect or ironclad. They're simply another way to look at the world.

Good scientists may appear to be dumb because they do not pretend to know all the answers.

Most scientists suffer from a long standing illness called hubris.

It is in fact a disease that disengages the common sense link upon graduating with advanced liberal degrees.
