Only if you work for the government. Other than that it is up to the company to decide what their policy is for holidays.

No, I don't. I work for AAA in the Emergency Road Service Dept, so we have to stay open 24 hrs a day. On national holidays, if I actually work on that day, I get paid double time. If I don't work on that day, I get paid my regular hourly wage.

It is up to the employer. I work for a small, up-and-coming company whose CEO seems to randomly pick which holidays we get off, but this is the same for many companies. It's their discretion.

It'd be a bit crap if all Drs and Nurses got the holidays off. Wouldn't want to break my leg that day,
