install avg free for virus protection, adAware for spyware blocker, and possibly zone alarm for firewall ( if you don't have service pack 2 ).

Avast Antivirus is a free program and it is very good. You can get it from www.avast.com and it is for one year and it can be renewed after that. Run your antivirus and follow the suggestions that it gives. Run a anti-spyware program such as Ad-Aware SE. You can get it free from www.lavasoft.com or from www.cnet.com or www.downloads.com which will get you to the same site. One suggestion though. If you find Adware but it is from a site you always use such as my Comcast Tool Bar, I keep those. The Comcast Toolbar is very good if you have Comcast for your broadband service. The Adware scanner is extremely fast, and Comcast also provides me with McAfee Antivirus, Firewall, and Security program and a file shredder, and it is all free!!

I hope this may be of some help to you.

Visit http://www.zonelabs.com and install ZONEALARM INTERNET SECURITY SUITE (free 15-day trial usually available, which should be long enough to fix it.... worth forking out the money on once it's expired) - includes Firewall, Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware (with automatic updates), pop-up / ad blocker + many other features (and is easier to figure out how to use compared to others, including AVG).

For extra protection, try SPYBOT: SEARCH & DESTROY from http://www.safer-networking.org/

Go to www.techguy.org and go to forums then security. They will ask you to use a program called hijackthis. It will make a log of what is on your computer. You will post that log and someone from the site will look it over and tell you how to fix the problems. It is free to use and they do a great job.

AdAware and Avast Antivirus are some very good (and very free) anti-spyware and anti-virus programs, respectively.

those sound more like adware....get yahoo tollbar and run antispy...is excellent...then get spybot and run...is also excellent...between those two that should cover them...beware pop up that tell you to download a certain program to get rid of spyware cause most of them are spyware themselves....
