My roof has hard water stains, from a leaky swamp cooler. I fixed the cooler problem but now I have hard water stains on my roof. I am not sure whether to paint them or try to clean the hard water stains. I have a power washer but I am afraid it will damage the roof shingles. If I go with the paint what type should I use? Would CLR work better? any suggestions?thanx in advance!

I can't think of the cleaning agent, but you can buy it at any home improvement stores to clean your roof with. That and the pressure washer will do the job. Just don't use the highest pressure nozzle and don't spray the shingle directly from the bottom. If you wash them from the top to the bottom, you will be ok.

If you are afraid of damaging the shingles, hire someone that has a pressure washing company but make SURE THAT THEY HAVE INSURANCE FOR THE COMPANY.

Hope that this helps.

Do not use CLR it will eat up what is left of your shingles. Without knowing what they are made of-wood or composite? Swamp coolers always have some run off anyway so it is a problem you will continue to battle.
