They better donate everything to the homeless/needy/hungry!

They throw it away at the end of the night, no matter how much is left over.
When I worked at the Olive Garden, we threw away 4-1/2 pans of lasagna. When I asked my manager about donating it to a local shelter, she said we couldn't due to liability. If anyone were to get sick due to improper holding temps, or cross contamination, that would be on us (even if it wasn't our fault.)
If the food was made on site at the shelter tho, it would be ok. So thats what we did :)

Fast food places have a rigorous schedule for their product. If it isn't sold within a certain number of minutes, it is thrown out, to ensure that product conforms to their quality standards. But that does seem like a dreadful waste! The are willing to donate to the homeless/needy/hungry but no one has yet figured out a way to do it. It's difficult to arrange a pickup time if you don't know if you will have anything to be picked up.

Most of the time, the food is thrown away. Sometimes, in some places, the employees are allowed to take stuff home at the end of the night. But as for giving it to food banks, shelters, soup kitchens, most businesses would rather write the food off as waste than donate it. I personally think this is stupid and selfish, but I'm just a peon where I work, so my opinions are worthless. Sigh.

I work at a fast food resturant and anything that is left over gets picked through by the closers and the rest gets thrown away.

I know when I used to work at MR. Cook years ago, we use to save the leftover hamburger patties and crumble them up and use them in the fiesta salads. The meat was still very good. But I guess just the thought of it is gross. Only households should use leftovers not restaurants that sell to customers. lol

some places do give there left over food to the needy, some throw it away, and some people recycles (ewwww)...some places don't have left overs because when you order it is when they make it

Leftovers: either employees take em home or they are thrown out. They dont reuse cooked meat or cooked fries that would be unsanitary.. I only know cuz I worked @ mcdonalds before

At my restaurant we have an estimation tool that we use that estimates on average how much food we're going to make. Sometimes we make too much and sometimes we don't make enough. When we make too much we keep it until it is no longer good, hoping we will sell it before the "use by" date comes.
