Restarts randomly, overheating, increasingly slower speed. Often times, I've found that a problem that seems to be the CPU ends up being a faulty fan that needs replaced to prevent overheating.

I RECENCTLY FIXED ONE. IF YOU'RE NOT AFRAID TO POKE AROUND INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER YOU MUST FIRST DO SOME TEST TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT ANOTHER ISSUE.
1.WILL THE COMPUTER BOOT (COME ON AND SHOW THE DESKSTOP)
2. IF IT DOES NOT BOOT OTHER COMPONENTS MAY BE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. BUT FIRST CHECK THE SIMPLE SOLUTIONS SUCH AS IS THE COMPUTER PLUGGED IN. AFTER UNPLUGGING AND TAKING OFF COVER , ARE ALL WIRES CONNECTED.

3. ON OLDER COMPUTERS THE MODEM, SOUND CARD , VIDEO CARD ARE IN THE FORM OF CARDS THAT PLUG INTO SLOTS . UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER AND REMOVE ONE CARD AT A TIME STARING WITH THE MODEM(THE ONE YOUR CABLE OR PHONE LINE FOR INTERNET PLUGS INTO). PLUG UP AND TURN COMPUTER BACK ON. IF IT BOOTS THAT CARD WAS THE PROBLEM. IF NOT CONTINUE THIS PROCEDURE WITH EACH CARD.

4. IN NEWER COMPUTERS THESE COMPONENTS ARE INTERGRATED (NOT IN THE FORM OF CARDS BUT BUILT INTO THE MAINBOARD). IN THE ONE I RECENCTLY FIXED I HAD A SPARE CPU OF THE SAME MAKE. AN AMD ATHLON 1.3 GHZ CPU. I REMOVED THE FAN AND THE OLD ONE AND PLUGGED IT AND SHAZAM! SHE CRANKED RIGHT UP.

5. IF YOU ARE JUST LEARNING IT ALWAYS HELPS TO GO TO YOUR COMPUTER MANUFACTERERS WEB SITE TO THE SUPPORT SECTION AND CHECK KNOWN ISSUES. IF YOU ARE NOT AFRAID TO TEAR UP YOUR COMPUTER YOU WILL GET SOME VALUABLE HANDS ON KNOW HOW.
