We have checked the ECU, distributor, alternator, nothing seems to be burned up... we bought the car already not running. The former owner said it just cut out while he was driving, and was never able to get it to start again. The engine turns over, but will never start. The timing belt and all belts seem to be okay and intact. The fuse that pops as soon as we start it is #14 under the dash, something with the alternator, cannot remember the exact name. Any advice would be helpful.

there probably is a short in the system. What you can do is get an ohm meter and go to autozone.com There register your car and look for the wire harness. It will tell you how to check on which wire and how much juice the wire should pass thru. Than you can see where the problem is. There might be the alternator which has the short. Buy one alternator from autozone and try it out. If it doesn't work out take it back and get your money back.

Based on my experience with Hondas of that vintage, you have no spark and probably need to install a new distributor which costs $500. Unfortunately, there's no reliable aftermarket distributor remanufacturer that I know of, and a new Honda distributor from the dealer would be even more expensive. My advice is to ask a local foreign car auto parts supplier if they can guarantee their remanufactured distributors to work in your car. If you find you don't have good spark, buy a complete distributor rather than trying to replace just the ignitor module in the distributor. Also, never crank the engine unless all the plug wires are connected to either the spark plugs or a spark tester, because that can burn out your distributor and coil components (as instructed in Honda's shop manual).
