Yahoo's search and its library is written in JAVA. If you look at the web address carefully, you can see that its sending its server parameters using the &var= deliminator. When it sends the form, it will use the getParameter request and show results probably using XML or JSP.

This is not an easy question to answer, namely because it could be written in several languages. I don't work for Yahoo so I don't know for sure, but...

The front end (the page you see when you do the search) is written in Javascript. The back end may be a Javabean or simply Java, but as far as the actual search function is concerned, I would guess something very fast like C/C++ or a scripting language like Python. I have no idea what database they use to store everything, but again I would guess something very fast like MySQL.
