The 22nd amendment to the constitution was passed on March 21, 1947. That amendment established the term limits for the President.

There was no law against it back then. everybody liked him and was reluctant to change presidents during a war so they re-elected him a third term. He died in office.
Truman took over and dropped the bomb and ended the war.

After the war they started to worry about that third term experience and decided to limit the terms of the executive but did not do the same for the senate and congress so we now have some members that have been in there too long.

It is unlikely that it will ever change as the very people who must vote to limit terms are the ones who would be hurt by it, so they will never vote for it.

We would need a rebellion of the voters and a proposition on the ballot to change the constitution or something to get those old ba$tards to give up their power and privilege.

We didn't have the Constitutional Amendment limiting Presidents to two terms until after he died.

because the two term limit was not in effect untill he served his four terms. he's actually the reason we DO now have a two term limit.

he was elected twice but took over as prez for two years when he was a vice prez
