mostly it is just the facts of nature. Pets and most other small animals live and die so fast because the small size causes rapid heart rate. Also animals as such have to mature so much faster because they have to survive on their own so much faster. The heart has alot to do with it a mouses heart can beat as much as 600 times a minute and an elephant only 30. It is said a heart is only good for a billion beats. Rate of growth and the hormones that play part is also a big factor.
