Neil Armstrong was the first to set foot on the surface of the moon. Technically, Buzz Aldrin, who was also aboard the lunar lander, reached the surface at the same time as Armstrong.

Other firsts:

Yuri Gagarin was the first man to orbit the Earth.

Valentina Tereschkova was the first woman to orbit the Earth (She's an interesting story. For PR purposes, the Soviet government had her marry another single cosmonaut, Andrian Nikolayev. They eventually were allowed to divorce each other. Her space flight gave a boost to her career and she eventually served as an official in the Soviet Union's government.)

Alan Shepard was the first to play golf on the moon. He smuggled a 6-iron and a couple of golf balls onto the flight. The legend is that his second shot was the longest golf shot ever taken in the universe, going for miles and miles. Later, more accurate estimations ranged from 200-400 yards.

James "Ox" VanHoften was the first to launch a satellite into orbit by hand. Due to a malfunction, one of the satellites launched by the Shuttle never boosted into its final orbit. On a later mission, the satellite was retrieved and repaired. Since there was no way to re-affix the satellite to the frisbee arm usually used to push satellites away from the Shuttle before firing the boosters, James "Ox" VanHoften had to manually push the satellite away, launching it into a low altitude parking orbit.

If "reach the moon" means walk on the surface, Neil Armstrong was first.

If "reach the moon" means land on the surface, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were both first.

If "reach the moon" means orbit the moon, Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and William Anders were the first.

Depends on how you define "guy." And is "reach the moon" the same as set foot on the moon? Cuz 3 astronauts reached the moon, but Neil whatshisname was the first to set his 2 feet on it.
