acually i disagree with everyone...i think trinidad and tobago are because its their 1st WC and look they come close to all these powerhouses..(england 1-0 [very close game] and sweden 0-0 [a game sweds were suposed to destroy) and the english game was much like the Ger-Pol game (1-0) Germany could penetrate polish defense till the end of the game it was very close and at times poland looked like the better one...but deffinatelly trinidad and tobago (who would think they could play soccer?...everyone knows south americans can but these tiny little island...who would have know??!?)

I'm going to have to go with Trinidad & Tobago. Even though they have yet to win a match or score a goal, they tied a very strong Sweden team and held England scoreless for the first 80 minutes of their match. They are performing much better than anyone expected, especially their goalkeeper Hislop.

You can also say the Czech Republic is the most impressive newcomer since this is their first World Cup since splitting with Slovakia.

And I have strong doubts that this World Cup will be like the '02 World Cup where the Korea Republic and Turkey made it to the semifinals. Considering the fact that you have several tough European teams on European soil and Brazil and Argentina who are always a threat, there shouldn't be another Turkey/Korea this year.

Ecuador has been the real shock so far. They are very strong, athletic and have had no problems adjusting to the lower altitude. i know they haven't played any of the big teams yet but against Poland they were a totally different class to them.

i would say australia, but they've been to one wc before, i'd say ivory coast. they're fast and have good passing skills, need to work on their shooting, they lost quite a few goals against the hermanos...
