In an earlier question I asked about which programming languages i should concentrate on in school. Now I need to know if an associates degree in computer science-programming will be sufficient in obtaining a good job. What should I expect as a starting salary?

Go for the Masters, they provide the best jobs for holders of Masters degrees. You'll enjoy at least six years of college going for it, but in the computer science field, you can expect to see starting salaries at 50,000 and up. It is the jobs held by people with only Associates degrees that are being shipped overseas and becoming hard to find here in the US. That is assuming you are in the US also.

I worked in higher ed administration for several years. My advice is, community college is a good place to start. You will need more than an Associates but it will save you thousands of dollars in the long run. Now days, most community colleges and universities have agreements were all your credits will be accept.

Today the technology changes so quickly it really doesn't matter the specific languages, packages etc. They will all mature and move on and you will need to relearn anyway.

Get the bachelors degree, and if you can stay in school longer, go get an MBA.

The MBA is what will launch you.

...I'd say learn as many programming languages you can get your hands on, and be extra smart about it. US will probably be outsourcing lower level programming jobs to India by the time you finish....sorry to burst your bubble. Take a language course in Hindi and come on over...
