Ok, I've been biting my nails for a while now, and it was really hard to stop, but eventually I did. My nails grew long, and I would go and get manicures all the time. I loved it. But just a few months ago, I started up again, and now I can't seem to stop. I know its a disgusting habit, but I've been trying hard, but I can't get myself to quit again. I've already tried putting on that nail polish, that when you go to bite your nails, it burns your tongue, and let me tell ya, for me, those things dont work! I really need help here. Anyone got a solution?

As a fellow nail biter, here's what i did. I tried the polish. It worked pretty well for me, but i would still bite. What i do is when i am at home i wear socks or gloves on my hands. That way i am reminded not to bite my nails. cus i can't. When you're out, i remind myself to keep my hands in a fist. or doing something or if i really want to bite my nails, i sit on my hands. .

You said you were having manicures done, do they do the fake nails?
I have to have them, my nails are as thin as paper, they would just roll back and split all the time.
And I know all about the stuff they have to stop the nail biting, we put it on my niece and she would make awful faces and just chew right through it.
I believe the fake nails will work for you, if you are like most nail biters it is done out of habit, without even thinking about it.
With the fake nails, they are so very hard you really notice what you are doing, before you have a chance to chew your nail down to the bone.
Go to a salon that does the fake nails and see what their work looks like, some of the people are better (gentler) than others.
And some of the nails just look better when a certain person does them. It is an art, so I guess they get better the more nails they do.
You are having to pay to have it done, so check out their work. Just get short nails to start with, if your nails are chewed down really short it may take two or three refills to get them to looking like your real nails used to. The refill will have to be done about every 3 weeks.
But it will be worth it to keep from chewing your nails off.

My mom used false nails a while back and they made her nails worse and dried them out. To stop biting your nails try using a safe but foul tasting coating solution either on or around them. They should be available at any drug store or pharmacy section. I know people back in the day used cod liver oil or something the child wouldn't like. To get your nails long make sure they have some strength to them. Clip them for a bit as it will help them strengthen on their own. Make sure you keep your hands moisturized. Another thing to look into is a multi-surfaced evener and shiner. It takes the ridges out, buffs the nails, and shines them. They also strengthen the nails.

Maybe something stressful is going on in your life right now, which is why you started biting your nails again. The best thing to do is figure out of there is anything in your life that makes you nervous and, if not, just keep in mind that biting your nails is very very very gross and unattractive. Maybe you should apply lotion on your hands or something, so there is always something that doesn't taste good on your hands. Good Luck!

I had been biting my nails for as long as I had teeth. When I turned 38 I made up my mind not to do that anymore. It worked for awhile. I realized that for me, when I'm worried the habit will return. My nail biting is about my nerves. Find out what's bothering you and find a better way to deal with your stress and/or worry.

Lord knows I faught that problem for years. The biggest thing is nail biting is a nervous tick. Replace the biting with something else. For example. File your nails! Just remember all that you have picked up under your nails.
