I have a Creative Microphoto and a Creative Zen Vision M.
Both these players won awards from C|NET as best MP3 player from the Consumer Electronics Show in 2005 and 2006.

And there are reviews that the Creative Zen Vision M has a better picture quality for Video than the iPod, longer battery life than the 30GB iPod Video.

The main difference between an iPod and and other brands of MP3 players is the kinds of music services they will work with.

Creative players have FM tuners and recorders built-in. iPods do not.

Many Creative players and other PlaysForSure subscription compatible MP3 players will allow you to rent all the music that will fit on the player for a monthly fee of as little as $10 a month pre-paid from services such as Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go, Rhapsody To Go, or Napster To Go. iPods do not.

There are many many more music online that let you purchase songs for PlaysForSure compatible MP3 players for less than 99cents including: Yahoo Music Unlimited, Rhapsody, Napster, Walmart, MSN Music, and hosts of others. Of these, I only know of Rhapsody working with the iPod as an alternative to iTunes.

I'd say it is pretty much a draw and you'll get opinions on both sides. But, frankly, I find Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go and Rhapsody To Go + Creative to be pretty easy for my music needs.

An iPod is a type of MP3 player. It's kinda like that old adage "A poodle is a dog, but not all dogs are poodles."

I don't consider myself a really technical person, but I have never had any trouble at all working my iPod and I've had it for about 2 years. It's really a very simple thing to use. You pull it out of the box, plug it in, and it works. The software that goes with it is ridiculously intuitive - the way you use it just makes sense, so often when you're ready to try something new with your iPod, you can figure it out just by looking at the program for a minute (the program's name is iTunes, by the way).

It's really very easy to put music on your iPod from your CDs and it's super easy to download songs from the iTunes online store to your iPod, too.

Obviously, I'd recommend an iPod. That said, I haven't owned any other brand of MP3 player...the reviews on them were never as good as the iPod, so I never bought one. Anyhow, good luck with your decision!

an ipod is an MP3 player but made by apple and thats pretty much the only difference cause the other companies are windows based :/ and also i would buy the cheapest one and i think some of memory cards that you can just slip right in and keep in your pocket so you can hold a lot of songs right in your pocket if you cant store it directly on it. but basically its not a biggie what you decide to get b/c it doesnt matter. mp3 player, ipod... same thing so if you wanna be "cool" then get an ipod but if you wanna be "really cool" then get an MP3 player heh

MP3 players normally play CDs with MP3 file formats on them 750 KB max

MP3 Digital players will play what every the storage card is SD Card up to 2 Gig

Ipod Supports more that just MP3
MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, Protected AAC, AIFF, MP4, M4V

These are different file types which are more compressed hence more songs can be stored on the same amount of space
Excluding WAV files.

MP4 is more compressed to MP3

The more compressed a file is the more space you have to put more songs on

The ipod is an mp3 player. The ipod is the easiest mp3 player to set up and use.

Not a lot in my opinion - they both record music on their chips. I have had an mp3 and an ipod. I will not go back to an mp3 player. The IPOD is easy to use, download music to and you have iTunes too, which is faintstic for tracing various artits and downloading new songs.

ipod is an mp3 player. pretty much all of them iriver, dell, ipod, etc are pretty basic so there;s not much to learn about them. ipod only has a click wheel and a couple of buttons, real easy. my opinion, if you want to fit in, get an ipod. If you want an MP3 player, find the cheapest one. They all seem to break down on you eventually.
