Did you check the fan? It may be getting overheated for some reason.

I had this same problem one time and thought it was a virus. It turns out that I had just finished installing software from my CD drive and when I rebooted, the system was trying to reboot from that CD. When it could not, it automatically restarted with the same message "Your computer has recovered from a serious error". After this happened a few times, I finally figured out what was happening, ejected the CD and all was fine.

Try starting your computer in safe mode. You access safe mode like this: When your computer starts to boot up and you see the Windows XP logo, press your f8 button. Your computer will come up with a list of starting choices. Choose "Safe Mode". When your computer starts up, it will look a bit different from normal, but thats okay. Once it is started, go to Start-Run. In the run diaglog box type in CMD. This will bring up a dos command prompt. In the Dos Command window, type in the following command: SFC /runnow and press enter. This will do a check & repair of all your system files. Let it run until completed. It may pop up an occassional command asking if you want windows to replace a corrupt file. Anser yes. This may solve your issue.

that happened to me a while ago, i think you need to do a system restore to a time before that was happening. to do this, when u start windows, go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore, or if u cant get there, right when u start your computer press f2 i beleive, or f8, its one of those, and u can have the option to start your computer in safe mode. start it in safe mode and then when it starts, it will give you an option to restore your computer, and then you can do it there. it will show a calender, and and u can click a date to restore it to. OR you can get the cds that came with your computer to reinstall windows xp, and it will whipe your harddrive, and let you start over like the computer is brand new. but to put it simpley, you either have a virus, or a virus came and deleted some important dll or startup files, or you deleted them on accident; either way your mising files that you need.

Go to the microsoft windows update page...
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
It will automatically search your computer for new updates. My computer was doing exactly the same thing and I went there the program put a patch on my computer. Now the problem is completely solved. you should go to that website at Least once a month for new software patches and updates.
Hope that helps!

Have you installed Service Pack 2 yet? There were some issues with that before it came out.

i have seen this problem more that once. what you need to do is boot up in "safe mode" backup all your files, and then reinstall windows. there other way is so time consuming (2 weeks) that it will be quicker to reload
