I don't know about any free programs, and alot of the time programs are more complicated than what you probably need.
Here's a start:
1. Open a new Excel spreadsheet
2. Going down the lefthand column, type in all your 'necessities'. Stuff you have to pay, like rent, gas, car insurance, groceries, loan payments, etc.
3. Move over one column and type in all your income. From jobs, parents, etc.
4. See what money you have left over. Let's say you have $400 left for yourself. Decide how much you need to give yourself for "discretionary" spending - like shopping, partying, etc. Then you'll know how much is left for savings. You should always pay your savings account before anything else, that way the money doesn't get used up by accident.
5. Stick to your plan. Put some of the savings money into RSPs so you can get the tax advantages.

Add up ALL your expenses. then subtract that number from your salary or paycheck per week. That number is what you have to play with. If its small, or even negative, think about your expenses, or your job situation. If its positive, your doing 1/2 way decent. But its cool to sock money away cause u never know when u are going to need extra.

When downloading free software, be careful as many contain ad-ware or spy-ware. You might try asking your bank or checking their website for a free program.

Sit down and plan every aspectof your life.
How much do you have to work with? How much do you want on the side?
You need to list your expenses, then your income, then whatever you have left would be wise to invest with so you can progress with your life.
