This is the first year that we have had a pool. We have only had it for a week and we have shocked it and added clarifier but the water will not clear up. The pH is 7.4 which is pretty balanced. My children are going crazy because they want to swim, can someone help?

You might have an algae problem if the water looks too green. Then you need to scrub the bottom and skim the top.

7.4 is acceptable for the pH. BUT what is the chlorine level? Shocking it doesn't presume the chlorine is existant, as a large number of "shocks" on the market contain NO chlorine! (Shocking is a process, not a chemical.) Put some chlorine in it and I'll bet it will clear right up.

Take a water sample to the local store that sells pool supplies in your area, they can test the water and tell you what you need to add. You could need algacide, sodium phosphate or a number of things soda ash, calcium chloride, it is better to have the water tested than to play the guessing game as it will cost you more in the long run to keep guessing.....Good luck

run the filter - the water has to be circulating

when you shock the pool you have to brush the sides and the bottom to get the alge up into the water

wait till the alge dies then vaccum it up

swim
