Bret Hart is a better technicle wrestler than Stone Cold, but Bret is a whiny little baby that needs to grow up. I always liked Bret when I was growing up, but seeing his DVD made me realize that he is a complete idiot. All he does is brag about how great he was and how he was always mistreated. All he can do is run down America (the country that made him a star) and brag on Canada. Canada is a great country and it has produced some of the best wrestlers in the world, but give credit where it is due. The American fans are the ones that filled his wallet. When the WWE inducted him into the 2006 Wrestling Hall of Fame, he did not even have the character about him to show up at Wrestlemania 22 to be honored with the other WWE Hall of Fame class of 2006 inductees.
I personally like Stone Cold better, and as far as an exciting performance there is nobody that can deliver like Austin.

From a technical ability standpoint, Bret Hart is the better wrestler. From a better CHARACTER standpoint, it's Austin all the way. He's a better talker and has a lot more fan appeal.
Bret has become more of a legendary figure because of the way he left WWE and the death of his brother, which he milked for sympathy, something I find repugnant. Frankly, although he was definitely good, he wasn't as good as HE thought he was. The whole "you screwed Bret" thing is really lame now, and most non-Canadian fans under the age of 30 don't know what it means anyway. Frankly, if he were to come back today in prime condition, he wouldn't probably be any better than a mid-card wrestler at best, because the quality of the talent has caught up to him, and his mike skills were average at best, so he wouldn't be able to incite fans as well as other stars.
Austin on the other hand has minimal technical skills but rather earned his reputation through his mike skills and ability to work his character, generate heat, and put over his opponent. It's too bad he's basically retired now, with only the very occasional appearance. He'd make a great commentator/occasional wrestler, sort of a Jerry Lawler type role only with more talent.

Bret Hart, is great wrestler!
Although, Bret Hart & Stone Cold are dman near equal in skills. Bret Hart gets the nod, as the better of the two, because he was more personalable...
