open a joint savings account but still keep your own seperate checking accounts. Agree on a specific amount you both will be contributing to this account and how often. This will allow you to still have control of your own money and build a little nest egg.

It is really simple, Join banks account but keep one separate just for yourself. That way some of your money will go into the joint account and the rest your personal account. That way you never have to worry . Also start making your spouse right down how much he spends after every transaction and decuss getting a saving account and starting a savings plan for the future.

In other words, you're saying you don't have any joint finances??? My husband and I have separate personal checking accounts, a joint account that pays all our bills, a joint savings account (which I have primary control over) and private savings accounts. But then again, we're a lot more money conscious than most people.

Don't trust your man not to spend your savings? Take a set amount ($1000?) and put it into a CD...it can't be touched without incurring HUGE penalties.

Share a checking account, but also get a savings account. You control the savings account. Have your paychecks go into savings and his to checking. Most banks will let you transfer money from checking to savings or savings to checking. Make sure you keep them balenced how you see fit.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the secrets of a long lasting marriage is separate checking accounts.

Tell him that you would like to open up a savings account in bith of your names instead. tell him that you both should put $ 25 each month and have it electronically saved to this account. Tell him that that will be the second honeymoon fund. That way you can sugar coat the news,

Good luck

Set up a separate account for him, deposit his share of his paycheck into it, withhold all housing costs, food costs, etc. that apply. Withhold a reasonable amount for savings. Then, he can spend what he wants from the rest of it. Some people should not be allowed to handle money, and he is probably one of them.

If he sucks at it DON"T DO IT, my wife sucks at saving, and budgeting the money, I flat out told my wife that I was taking everything over, like it or not, I have been doing this for 10 years and it worked, after awhile she was happy not to have the headache with dealing with all of it.
