I definitely agree that there is a relationship between some rap music & violence. There is an even greater relationship between some rap and the degradation and lack of respect for women. I think that rap videos influence young men, especially African- American men, because they want to emulate the hip hop lifestyle being portrayed and believe that how women act and are treated in the videos is how all women want to be treated. I think these videos also influence young women, because they believe that men will not be interested in them unless they act like the women in the videos or they feel that's the way women are expected to behave. Images and music (whether positive or negative) definitely have a strong effect on society. Not all rap degrades women or promotes violence. Only the negative images/music should be banned.

I do NOT think rap music should be banned, maybe it HAS been linked to violence, but hasn't other music too? For example heavy metal rock music or songs that include stuff about the war that can also lead to violence, its not ONLY rap music! Some people really like rap music, I for one am one of those people, it can be a little anti feminist but not totally violent.

Is it really rap that's causing the violence? Because people swear a lot-hey they do that in other types of music too! Does that make it a sign that rap = violence? I think by saying rap = violence, they are trying to cover up the reality by just saying oh yeah it's rap's fault there are a bunch of gangs and violence.

There IS bad rap music, but nothing is perfect!

I disagree that rap music should be banned and that it has a relationship to violent bechavior. And i think rap music shouldn't be banned, because it doesn't cause violent behavior its the people that do the violent behavior.they people that do the violence are the ones that need banning, the music doesn't say shoot the person, kill that person-those people do it on their own.no one tells them to do that, even if someone does they have a choose to do it or not.i want all of those experts to listen to rap music, i mean listen to the words understand what the rapper is saying.and see if the experts will cause violence because of rap music.

I agree. Rapers would put a thong on their own mothers & put them in a video. They talk about booties money big cars. Kids see all these things on TV and fall into it. Its bad enough we live in a world full of poverty & sickness. Than we have to deal with Violence. Trust me things will only get worse. I cant stand rappers. I personall dont let me kids watch MTV or BET. I dont want my son to be a player & mistreat women & I dont want my daughter to be a hoe like all the people in Rap videos. I do like R&B most stuff talks about love. Sure Rappers express them selfs threw music. But are they thinking of their fans and how there powerful words can change the way they think. I mean have you heard their music not exactly positive.

It's linked to violence, yes, but banning it would be even worse. It'd be like prohibition. Banning rap music would increase the number of people that listen to it.

I don't think rap should be banned because if that is the chase amost everything on television and video games should be banned. take for instance cartoons they are filled with violence but i guess that does not matter as long as it is a cartooh huh?

I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN "THE GHETTO" FOR ALL OF MY LIFE. I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY JAZZ, R&B, AND OF COURSE RAP. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THINGS GO DOWN AROUND THE WAY AND IT IS DEFINETLY NOT BECAUSE OF RAP. VIOLENCE IS INFLUENCED BY YOUR FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES. IF YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE VIOLENT AND UNKNOWLEDGEABLE, THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU WILL MOST LIKELY TURN OUT TO BE. I DO LIKE RAP MUSIC BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN AROUND IT SO LONG, BUT IT IS NOT EXACTLY MY FAVORITE. I'M JUST TIRED OF ALL OF THE NASTY COMMENTS ABOUT WOMEN. I AM A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LEHMAN COLLEGE AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT RAP DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO ME. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE WILLPOWER TO BE YOURSELF, THAN YOU PROBABLY WILL FOLLOW THE LYRICS.

why do people think of rap as violence. that's bull. rap is a form of poetry so there is no way that you can bann from people. it's how people express their selfs,so how can you take that away from anybody. you cant. people only look at the negitive part. sometimes rap can keep kids out of the street. without it, imagine what america would be today

it shouldn't be banned because in the music it tell their feelings or express themselves in the song. even thought it has violence it just expresses what they would do but i personally think that it is just shows examples of things.
