Pismo Beach California

Northern California, and central California, has many great places to camp. I live very near Big Basin State Park, up north of Boulder Creek in Santa Cruz County. It's quite beautiful, all redwood trees and moss and ferns -- a temperate rain forest, they call it, but we rarely get rain this time of year. You can rent tent cabins (tents on a wooden floor), or camp in a camper van or whatever you want.

Actually, I suspect you could get on a web site for California Parks department and have a great time. Big Basin is the one I know because it's nearby, and I could recommend some interesting places to visit in the neighborhood, like Roaring Camp and the Big Trees Railroad from Felton to Santa Cruz. Or Brookdale Lodge, with its brook running right through the middle of the dining room! Or old Joe's Bar, which looks like every Western movie scene John Wayne ever played in. Or the Catalyst down in Santa Cruz, which gets major rock and roll bands on week-ends. Or the Beach Boardwalk, with its roller coaster and plenty of silly fun.

But if you just want to camp in the cool, quiet woods, Big Basin is still terrific. So are lots of other parks within a few hundred miles all around.

As I don't know where you are, I will assume that you are in the United States.

Check with your Local, County or State government. Most have websites. These websites often have public campgrounds listed. You can also check with KOA at www.koa.com They list private campgrounds, but only those that are koa members. If you know the city you wish to visit, for example Ocean City, MD, you can go to their website and look for campgrounds in that area or even call the chamber of commerce and they might be able to help you.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.
