Lethal Weapon - it actually bombed at the box office but video sales/rentals turned it into a huge hit and showed some movie companies that there was a market in video for some films that might not have huge box office and allowed for either direct to video or for a film company to take a chance.

And I know Where The Buffallo Roam is with Bill Murray - It's about Hunter Thompson - the same as Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas with Johnny Depp.

Where the Buffalo Roam, with Bill Murray, nobody has any idea what the hell im talking about when I mention this movie.

Here are a few others that I think are underappreciated
Memento
Ravenous
Spun
and of course The series Twin Peaks, this is beautifully made, and the actors, the set and everything is perfect, the hidden meanings, it makes me ashamed that others dont even know of or appreciate what this show really had to offer, it makes you think, and some people are afraid to think to hard about anything.

comedy-

3rd wheel (Luke Wilson and Denise Richards on a doomed date)
party monster (dramatic comedy with Seth Green and macauly culkin (sp) slightly heavier)
tank girl (this is brilliant and the most random movie ever)
Gossip (wicked wit, also slightly heavier- very intricate plot)
homer and eddie (some very touching performances)
The other sister (also Giovanni Ribisi and Juliette Lewis, deeper comedy/drama)
Everything is illuminated (Elijah Wood and the frontman from Gogol Bordello- funny wihtout having to rely on fart jokes. also a bit deeper, not just a 'throw-away" there's heavy undertones- but its top rate comedy keep it from being morbid.)

Drama

heaven (Giovanni Ribisi and Cate Blanchett- Its Italian and subtitled for most of the movie- but brilliant)
boondock saints (cult movie- should get more recognition comercially)
boiler room (another Ribisi movie. No weak points)
merlin (a-MA-zing effects for the time- charismatic and adictive)
the basketball diaries (DiCaprio's finest)
powder (tear-jerker)
gangster no 1 (Paul Bettany has never done better. MAlcolm McDowell said it was the movie he enjoyed doing most since Clockwork orange)
in america (Well executed- Irish family illegally living in the US)
shine (this one should be slightly better known- the one I remember Geoffrey rush for)

I'm not saying all of these are completely obscure, but in my opinion they're not getting their due props.

I would say "A Fish Called Wanda" with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, and John Cleese. Such a brilliant and funny movie made in 1988. But hardly anyone's even heard of it!
