my ex husband and the father of my for children has retired and is on social security so my youngest son has been on disability since he was a teenager and since his father is on social security my son may be able to collect from his fathers social security record. You probably wonder why doesn't my son's father just give me his social security number....well he never supported any of his children, even though support was court ordered...we were married 11 years, had 4 children and he divorced me while I was in Carraway hospital, in Birmingham, Alabama having electro shock treatments, after a nervous breakdown...we divorced in 1976 and I had 4 small children ages 1 year to 6 years....my children never had love or support from their father which is an injustice...so you see it will help my disabled son if I can get his fathers social security number to give to Social Security Administration.

It isn't on your marriage license? Or on any of your papers for insurance, home ownership, mortgage, credit cards? Isn't the father listed on the birth certificate? If you can prove you were married and he is the father, why is the social security administration dragging their feet? Sounds like you might want to consult a social security attorney.

However, If you divorced in 1976, even the youngest of the children would be WELL into adulthood... why is social security through the father even an option? Shouldn't it be some sort of adult/need based social security?

If you are doing this for genealogial purposes, AND you are a direct descendant, yes you can order a copy of the person's social security original application. The thing is, you have to know their social security number, and they have to be deceased. Look at the link I posted, it should help.

Maybe you should try one of the many people search services offered on the web. They can get you a person's SSN, DOB, current address, place of employment, everything you need to get your child support stuff filed.

It may possibly be in the court papers where he was ordered to pay child support. The SS administration should be able to get the number, considering the circumstances.
