They are Preying Mantises - awesome bugs. really & they eat a lot of other bugs, so encourage them to come back!!!
They will return each year to where they mate. The females are much larger than the males - after they mate, the female rips off the head of the male. Wow - talk about rude awakening!! But they are good to have around. Also, when they begin to change color from bright green to brownish, the seasons are changing & Fall won't be far behind!

"Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie." HAHAHAHA! Good one!

I wish I had some praying mantids in my yard. I haven't seen any in years. I used to play with them when I was a kid. If you're gentle, they tame really quickly. But put them back in the garden when you're done, of course! When we move to a more permanent place, I may order some mantid egg cases off the internet as they're really good for pest control.

It sounds like a praying mantis: long green body, inverted triangle-shaped head. i've only seen one in my garden but I don't believe they eat flowers. I think it's known as an insect predator.

They are Praying Mantes. They eat other annoying bugs and are very useful insects. They will get quite large and can be very aggressive if bothered. They aren't hurting anything by being on your flowers, in fact they are helping them.

I'm guessing it has long, folded arms it carries close to its chest?

If so, then you're seeing a praying mantis. They're harmless to your plants and generally eat pesky insects. You want them around.
