Its a bracket tournament 32 teams play in the World Cup which lasts for one month. June 9th to July 9th. July 9th being the Championship match. 1st round is 8 groups (4 teams ea. group) that brakes down to the second round known as the Round of 16 and or Elimination Round. Those 16 teams then go down to 8 (quarter-finals), 4 teams (semi-finals). Saturday July 8 will be the game for 3rd place which is still considered very good. So in essence if you want to win the Cup without a loss you would need to win 7 games. Hope this helps you.

Only 1 country can be called WC champions..
They play 3 games in the opening round. 1 against each of the 3 other teams in their group.
They need to come in 1st or 2nd to advance. That means they have made it to the round of 16. A loss from now on means elimination.
Then they must win in the round of 16 and both the quarter and semi finals.
Then the finals.
Basically to win the cup teams need to do well in the 1st 3 games and the MUST win the other 4.

Yeah, only one country wins it every time there is a tournament. In order to win, you have to have to meet or exceed a certain score in the preliminary round, then beat all of the teams you face beginning in the Round of 16.
