I'm trying to think of alternatives to getting drunk at a bar or club. I live in Los Angeles. Any suggestions for inexpensive, fun things to do on a weekend night? Bonus points for things that don't include booze, although I'd like suggestions for both. And I'm talking beyond typical things like "seeing a movie" or "bowling". Get creative, people!

Are you afraid of heights? There are indoor places that have rock climbing walls. Check around and see if your area has one of the amusement type places that you suit up and simulate freefalling thru the air. Or bungee jumping. Or - make fun if you like, but karaoke can be a lot of fun (with or without booze) Or, for an afternoon thing to do how about a real skydiving lesson? Better yet - does anyone in LA have hot air balloon rides? Booze not required for any of these. However, if you want an unusual romantic date, make it a hot air balloon ride with a small bottle of nice wine with a picnic.

Look into the local Philharmonic or Chamber Music groups - they often have concerts for free or cheap. Do a progressive dinner. You know, appetizers at one place (restaurant or friend's house. More fun if you get a group of people together.) main course at another place, and dessert somewhere else. Sometimes at local bookstores, authors do a reading or signing, look into that. What about a play? Sometimes there's community theater groups or even the colleges offer them.
Good luck!

Go to a museum or a historical building, or look for an old abandoned house to explore.
