Just so you are all aware I am a non smoker so your lame comments about me quiting.. Nice try. Cigarette addition is as bad as alcohol and I see more sympathy for alcoholics then smokers. Cigarettes have been here longer then we have so just get over your self and deal. It's not the cigarette it self that is the issue it's the smoker that chooses to be rude & impolite toward others. Cancer may be agrivated by cigarette but until there is a cure it can't be a determined cause as my father smokes 2 packs of nonfilters a day for 50+ yrs and he does not have any cancer. So I think there is more factors to cancer then everyone knows. My grandfather was a non smoker and he just passed last month of cancer. So the state of MA does not offer discount on pack to carton but, NH does I was just curious on how or who gets to decide as they have state min. but who decides? I was a retailer and we purchased our packs by the carton not by the pack as everyone else does.

people keep trying to raise tax on cigarettes because they dont want people to smoke. These people should worry about themselves.

I work for a retailer that sells cigarettes and here is the answer to the best of my knowledge..

It is a combination of the retailer, the cigarette company and the government (they set the taxes of course)

Some retailers can charge less than others because they have greater buying power and can in bigger amounts at one time, therefore getting a bigger discount from the manufacturer.

The reason packs are more than cartons is because like buying soda, buying by the "case" is always less expensive than buying one at a time because of the convenience factor.

It is more "convenient" to buy one pack then a carton not only because of the size but because of the upfront costs. It is easier to spend $10 every so often than to spend $80 all at once.

The same reason why 3 doz eggs costs less than 1 doz.

If you buy in bulk, you pay less, because there is less handling involved and less time consumed doing so when stocking and transporting a product.

BTW, drop the habit or you'll be complaining about cancer later.
Or else find a burning building and just run in there and breath in deeply a few times. It's alot faster if you want to inhale smoke and die.

cigarettes are taxed heavily to discourage smoking.
Cartons are less expensive because you get a discount based on quantity.

I disagree with the man above.

My father recently died from small cell lunge cancer that is caused only by cigarette smoking. His bones melted and he died after 6 months in agony. Not everybody is educated and can develop a habit before they know how bad it is.

packs are more expensive becasue they would rather you buy more, so to encourage bulk buying they set the price lower on itesm that have more. Its the concept of mass production leading to a lower costs. the more units you move the more money you make even if its only by a small fraction.

They want to lower the number of people smoking because they know that if they raise them enough, less people will smoke because they will be too expensive.

Most of the cost is taxes and any time you buy in bulk it is cheaper.

usually the companies tell the stores at what the minimum price a store can sell them at and they go from there. they can sell at the lowest price possible or jack it up.....
