The Stand is much better. It's more interesting. Just the idea of everyone dying and leaving the stuff behind--what would happen?
It is very scary. I had a friend who said that he was so scared reading it he would turn the lights off so he wouldn't see anything.
The problem with It is it has a poor ending. I don't want to ruin it, but I felt the ending was a let down.
The Stand on the other hand has Flagg, Trashcan man, and a good ending

IT has a more supernatural feel to it than does The Stand. I read IT when I was younger and The Stand a few years later. I felt like I knew the kids in IT and identified better with them than I did with the survivors in Stand. I thought IT was a better movie.

The Stand...hands down.
I like every book he's written, but The Stand is my favorite. I also think it's one of the scariest because it's plausible. If you're of the sort who has a rational, scientific answer for everything, take out anything "supernatural" (Mother Abigail, Randall Flagg and the hand of God), and the book's plot is terrifyingly possible.
He has a truly demented mind..I love it!

The Stand is better.
Characters like Stu, Molly, Glenn, Nick, Randall Flagg and Tom (MOON, that spells Tom!) come alive.
IT was better of the two as a TV miniseries. Pennywise is a nightmare. I hate clowns. Stupid ending though.

Love them both. I think the characters in IT are better developed and you get more attached to them, but I always pick The Stand as my favorite because of the story - killer disease, good v. evil, Walking Dude - and the imagery. (The part on the road to Nebraska where Sue Stern bludgeons the guy with a rifle butt and then waves it triumphantly, with a primal scream, still gives me chills.)

I've read The Stand at least three times, so I guess I must like it better.

I'm gonna join the club and say The Stand. Not only is it infinitely better then "It", in my opinion it is his best book period.
