According to the definitions I found, it could be both racism and prejudice.
People will talk and make fun of anyone who does look like them.
Racism refers to various belief systems maintaining that humans can be separated into various groups based on physical attributes and that these groupings determine or influence cultural or individual achievement or the essential value of human beings
Prejudice
1 : injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one's rights; especially : detriment to one's legal rights or claims
2 a (1) : preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b : an instance of such judgment or opinion c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

Well what are they saying about you being darker? I know a few people who do that... I mean if it bothers you then yeah maybe I guess. I wouldn't do that... I have a lot of dark black friends, and I'm light, but I don't make in fun of them. But if it really bothers you I think you should talk to that person and tell them to stop!

It is definitely racism, internal racism to be exact, this person is ignorant of what is appropriate and what is not. Not because you are of the same race does not mean that your shade of colouring should be ridiculed. This idiot definitely needs a lesson in sensitivity. I hope you're not planning on taking legal actions.

I take it from you avatar that you are black too. Even among our own people there is racism against each other. Someone always looking and preferring the "high yellow sister" to the beautiful dark chocolate sister. It is not fair, but has been around since slavery.

Yes, there is racism even within the same races but be careful to not fire back at them. Mostly, it is just plain unkindness on their part. That is what racism is anyway. Don't stoop to their level. If they are a so-called friend, move on. You deserve better.

I think it is more poor taste than racism. I am white and we poke fun at overly tanned white people...we certainly don't hate our race! I think it is more insecurity on their part, b/c a lot of black ppl I know seem to think the lighter the better.

Racism is defined as a formal discrimination based on race - or the belief that one race is superior to another, so I don't think the teasing you describe can be considered racism.
Regardless, it's rude, and it's clearly offensive to you. That should be reason enough for them to stop.

Sweetheart... who is going to walk through you life for you?
You or someone else? So what does it matter what others think of you.. !! They cannot define you as a person or hinder your accomplishments as an individual
There are many ways that you can define racism. NO, I don't think it is meant in that way, unless they are making comments and such.

I don't think that this would be considered racism, I think that it would be considered just plain meanness. The def. or racism is: Discrimination or prejudice based on race. He isn't really discriminating based on race, because he is black too. Right?
