There are stores that sell divorce kits. If both parties agree about everything(house, kids, bills) there is no need to involve a lawyer. They are expensive..and only out to help themselves! You can also go to the courthouse and find out which papers you need to file for divorce...it varies from state to state. You can get these forms for free or a small cost and file yourself. Which is better for both parties in the long run.

A lot really depends on the state you live in, but I can tell you what I did to get my divorce in Texas. I went down to Office Max (yes you read right) and picked up do-it-yourself divorce papers. My husband (now my ex) filled them out and drew up a contract dealing with the cars and house. We signed them, took them to the court house, filled them and 6 months later he went in front of the Judge and vavoom, we were divorced. In a way it is very sad that something that took twenty years of my life ended so easily, but that's what happens when two people stop caring and grow apart. As far as the lover, well I wouldn't if I were her. Just a little note, tell your friend to be very careful about a "lover" that she made during another relationship, my experience taught me a hard lesson, it normally doesn't work out. There is usually a reason someone "sees" a married person.

Divorces can take 6 months to a year to be processed, often due to the back-up in court proceedings.

Even if both agree, there is still a division of assets to be arranged, adn any custody if there are kids involved. I saw lawyers are necessary.

ALSO if you go it alone, there is a possibility yuou may miss a step or two, and the divorce won't be finalized, which means you can't get remarried. Divorce lawyers will know how to handle any snags and get everything settled and completed.

Please learn to spell. Time depends on the state. Don't do it in North Carolina, that would take a year. The cost depends on the lawyer and how much he decides to charge you. If the two people agree on everything, then there will be little or no negotiation. This means less consultations with the lawyer and less court time. These things translate to a relatively cheap divorce.

Well in MS it only takes 90 days if both parties agree on everything, now I was told I couldn't do anything until my divorce was final he can use that against me so,as far as her being with her lover I would suggest no, not until the divorce in alot of eyes that is called adultry... SHE can get into big trouble over that! She should have waited to get involved with him after she divorced her husband...

If both parties agrees to it there are court papers on line. That is how my husband did it. Filed and waited and it is over. However we had nothing to split. We agreed on everything and it was over. Had to wait 6 months in California. I know Idaho is 21 days. Go on line to a website from a large county in washington it will tell you all the rules.
There are people that will file the papers for you and help fill them out that is much cheaper too. Legal aides. Look in the yellow pages.

In Washington State you don't need a lawyer.
The hardest thing to know is what forms to fill out.
If you go on line, Washington State has a site that explains what documents you need for a divorce dependant on whether you have children or not.
It takes at least 3 months from the date you file.
Good luck.

my cousin got divorced in 7 months. Both agreed and it wasnt nasty at all. He made up a contract to cover himself on alot of things and she went along with it. They both had there own lawyer. There is a house they had together and he is staying there now and she is bound to help him pay the mortgage til they sell it and also pay the other house bills. So in certain cases it doesnt take that long at all.

You need to look at the legal guidelines for getting a divorce. Abandonment in my state is a rapid divorce plea...It takes only a few months and ask a woman's shelter for the legal filing in that county then she can file it herself and the woman's center will also tell her how much is the filing fee....no need for a lawyer at all if she goes to the woman's shelter to get the help.
