Smiddy wasn't born, but the depiction of both runners, Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell in the film Chariots of Fire was very inspiring to Smiddy... at almost every level. The contrast between the two men, driven to excel for their own very personal reasons - it's an almost perfect dichotomy - and Smiddy can identify with them both and is doubly inspired every time he watches that film.

BTW, I liked your answer to my fake Yahoo featured questions question. Smiddy doesn't think your running questions are in the least bit silly. Have a great day!

Dean Karnazes is my running hero. Anyone who can run 350 miles without sleep is just a running machine. He's a really nice guy, too. I spoke to him for a while at the expo for the Silicon Valley Marathon last year, then I had hiim sign a copy of his book for me.

That was a week or two before I ran my first 50 mile endurance race.

My dog. See I just moved to a better neighborhood, one without stray dogs and large scary black men (not being racist, I lived in a rough hood), so I've started walking her. I never walked her before and she was pretty out of shape. But after 1 1/2 weeks, she's gone from a semi-saunter on our short walk, to sprinting half of it and still pulling hard the last part. She's got me running! Which is good becuase I'm pretty out of shape. Pretty soon we're going to be running the entire route that we walk now, and will probably have to go around twice. That'll be great!

Justin Gatlin-He promised and came across. There something about being cocky and have the ability to back it up not to mention the desire
