Probably because they themselves are unhappy in that situation.

Well, for one, the father could be assuming that what is true for him will hold true for his son. So perhaps the father feels that he would be unhappy if he were without a wife or partner. Perhaps he is already single, and he's unhappy with that situation. People usually give advice based on their personal experience.
Another possibility is that the father want to have grandchildren that he can visit in his future. Think about it this way - he made the choice to have a kid, so he must like kids somewhat - grandchildren are even better because you get to spoil them and then send them home. ;)

I think it has a lot to do with the father's upbringing. If the father was told when he was growing up that you should have a partner to be happy, its what he's known all his life and is the only knowledge he has on that topic to share with his son. I also thinking society encourages individuals (whether male or female) to seek a partner and avoid the single life at all cost.

Whether they are happier or not is not the issue. A father would like to see his name or bloodline carry on. It's an innate desire for most to know they are doing their part to carry on the family, propigating the species. that father begat a son, just as his father before him and before him, etc. Don't you believe that he would then only see it fit and proper for his son to do the same? Children are to be brought up by two parents, a male and female. So why wouldn't the father recommend to his son to have a mate?

Hmmmm. Let me guess. You're a member of Zero Population, right? Either that, or you're a Happy Player. Or a woman-hating Zag Bunnyhunter who needs to get put out of womankind's misery. Whatever, you're something really twisted.
According to Jewish tradition, we are commanded to get married and repopulate by at least one. Some people say two. Only the christian bible changes this to the opposite cuz they don't realize that christianity is really egyptian paganism which encouraged homosexuality. Which is the real reason catholic priests don't get married but have secret homosexual affairs at the monastery.

Because of man's unchecked desire to procreate. It is a natural urge and this probably also explains why men masterbate more than women. Monogamy goes against the natural grain of not only our species, but all species. The more one spreads his/her seed, the more successful the species will become. I think it is the unconscious urge of all men to lead a nomadic life and have as much sex as possible. That sounds like a happy life to me.

...some of these instincts are genetic, like finding a mate...and multiplying like rabbits...they are only regurgitating what their own fathers told them, and their father's father, and so on. There is something to be said about the path of the family, but it's not the only path. I know plenty of people who are satisfied on their own, and have no regrets. They have a wide community base, and extended families.

My guess would be that their fathers want their sons to settle down with one woman forever instead of whoring around.
The bible says that it would be best to not get married... but if you find that you require sex and can't control your desires, then get married so that you can participate in those activites in an acceptable way.

People can only give the best advice they know. If the father has been lied to then he passes down the lie that was told him.
This is probably why success breeds success.

Because that's the way they were brought, and their parents before them, and so on and so forth. My father just said it's your life, if you find someone that makes you happy (a woman), then marry her, if not, oh well.
Unfortunately, my dad is stuck in his own ways, he said that if any of his kids were gay, he would disown them. Which he is upset with me since I don't share that view.
