As a group the left tries to pander to SO MANY different fringe wackos that it must be incredibly difficult to keep track of all of your positions, exampled by that constant "flip-flop" that leftist politicans do. An example would be how Senators Kerry and Clinton are both for and against the war in Iraq at the same time.

I think that to be effective in national elections you sort of have to stick with your core. Does the left have a definable core? Will they cut loose some of the fringe to not be dragged down by it? Do they care? Is it possible that being liked by all the fringe wacko's is actually more important to them than is winning elections?

No, the left doesn't have any definable core. No, they can't cut loose the fringe because the "fringe" is the only part of the left that still supports the looney agenda of liberals.

Being for and against the war isn't unusual. Any action this complicated is going to change people's opinions around. But as far as politicians? Do any of them, any party really care? They all just want to get re-elected and probably do not even express their real beliefs.
As a woman, I hate to say this, but if we are going to fight a war, we should have just stomped on Iraq - soldiers, civilians, and the land itself. These people are lost in a religious haze and have been warring forever. That is there cottage industry - war! Why be a super power if all you are going to be is a wimp?
Our politicians are going to do what they always do - allow the madness of the middle east to continue until one of their nations nukes one of their own or nukes wherever the bomb may land.

The civilized world is just sitting around waiting for a nuclear strike by people who can not even invent the devices themselves. It is the 21st century and they are still hiding in caves. It is a disaster waiting to happen because men are playing their little men games. We need to do something 'drastic' or 'horrific' and say 'enough is enough'. We could be spending the money on much more important things, furthering all our societies. It is time to get serious and kick some #@&*

Hey Meat Head, is that the best you could come up with? What about Bush trying to deflect attention from his failed presidency by proposing an amendment to ban gay marriage, yeah he's a real "stand up" guy.
