240 songs.Thats talking about 240 4-Minute songs.So you might be able to hold more or less.It just depends on the size of the songs you put on there!

If estimated at an average that your mp3s are encoded with the following,

128 kbps, stereo dual channel @ 44100Hz

your file would hold its position in the range of 4-5 Mega bytes. If so, you could simply devide your 1GB as follows:

1024 byte - 1Kb
1024 kb - 1Mb
1024 Mb - 1 GB

1024 devide by 5 (taken at a maximum strenght) and it would result in 205.8, when rounded to the nearest full number 206 songs at minimum.

I have a 1GB Diamond MP3 Player and it says that it will hold up to 500 songs but i can get about 430 on it.

It should at least hold 200 songs. Quite enough for everyday use, but better to get a larger memory if you´re gonna do some serious traveling.

Apple.com claims about 240, but it depends on the song's length and audio quality. I would guess that on average, 1 GB holds closer to 200.
