Would you rather work your life away at a “decent” paying white collar job w/o much satisfaction ~ or do your own thing (starving artist) making next to nothing yet have happiness in your life?

Ahhh, an artist. Kinsman, of sorts. My advice, take the decent-paying job. Use it---buy oils, pastels, canvas, and all your supplies that it will take to get enough work together that you can have a show if someone "discovers" you. Who knows: There may be a person in that company's marketing department looking for an artist's work for the corporate building foyer! You never know what people you will meet outside you studio that will help you get a show for you work.

Sometimes we have to eat turnips to stay alive long enough to appreciate the greens.

Being a starving artist on television is romantic. Being one in real life is next to impossible in this day and age. Use the job as a means to your artistic "end." Just think of all the inspiration you can get even on a boring 9-to-5 job! The faces of the robot people grinding it out, day after day; the colors in the huge windows that wrap the concrete in pseudo-serenity! The wonderful sounds of paper and machines biting at the air. My goodness.....what a resource.

Use the job----do your best at it (don't be a thief of your employer's wages). But know that while you're there, you're working toward a dream---a goal. There's nothing wrong with that!

"Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things." ~ Edgar Degas

Money without happiness or happiness without money, all the money in the world can't buy you happiness. A life without happines is a empty hollow feeling. Money may buy you all the things in the world you want, but it can't buy you happiness. Money also seems to bring out the worst in some people.

I'd rather be happy, but I believe you can choose to be happy in almost any situation. Happiness isn't a circumstance--it's a choice.
