Hmmm... who exactly are these 'offended ethnic minorities'? Maybe they have actually had hassle off BNP members or something, but a widespread ban of the St Georges Cross sounds like a crackpot scheme- almost as if it's a prank. If someone has been genuinely harassed by nationalists, then it's those nationalists alone who should be called to account, not the whole nation. Treating the symptoms is pointless if you don't also cut to the heart of the problem- and you can hardly call the English flag that.
I'm not bothered about the football, I wouldn't fly a flag myself, but for a lot of people it seems to be a great joy. Banning it would just cause a lot of misery for small benefit, if any benefit at all. It's hard to see what good might come of it really.

Lets get one thing straight. There is NO nationwide campaign to ban the St George Cross. One person sent a fax, so you say, not the entire bl**dy country.
I live in a multicultural area. The builder up the road has decorated his house, his van, his hair. He's not the only one. The council are flying flags on the dump trucks and the road sweeping machines. NO ONE HAS COMPLAINED.
The only people who claim this is happening are the BNP. Deal with it and get over it.
And yes the BNP have their roots in racism, as do the National Front and the British Movement; and no we still won't vote BNP even if they now say they're not racist. They are fascist and we do not want to live in 1980's South Africa; Yugoslavia or 1930's Berlin.

What?!
That's the worst thing I've ever heard!
The government don't know it, but many ethnic minorities actually like the St. George's Cross. There was an article in The Daily Mail not long before Christmas about an Indian who forced his council to remove the "Welcome to [insert city here]" sign in different languages, including those of the Middle East, and replace it with a sign saying "Merry Christmas". I think that his argument was that in India there's over 300 religions and only the main religion gets their holidays celebrated. And that's why merry christmas should be displayed, as opposed to happy 'eid. (End of the Muslim fasting month [Ramadan].)

If the St George's cross should be banned shouldn't every flag in the world be banned.
I'm English and proud of it.

I'm PROUD to be BRITISH or at least I was until the ridiculous PC nanny state fraternity took over. Everyone has a right to their own identity and should be able to express that. This shouldn't offend any British citizen as this freedom of identity extends to all colours, race, class, religions etc. But BEWARE it's this kind of thing that is taking the very liberty that our grandfathers fought for.

Yes I go along with the ban!!
This flag is now just the symbol of the BNP , but no real rush, we will soon see it vanish as England get kicked out of the cup, there will be no interest then, long live that day!!
Hope this helps??

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MADE!!!! I am an ethnic minority in England and I couldn't give a DAMN if you fly your flag!!!
And ethnic minorities that have a problem with this need to remember: WHEN IN ROME, DO AS THE ROMANS DO!!! If they don't like it, LEAVE! (and I am a minority also as I said so no-one can call me a racist and if they do, am I bothered?!)
For goodness sake, we're in England, it's the world cup, these people need to get a LIFE!!!!!!!
FLY YOUR FLAG WITH PRIDE! F*CK THE WHINGERS!!!!!!!!

Here, here, Sarah C. It's the perfect time for the BNP to stir up racial hatred. Sounds paranoid, but I believe it! Compaining about the George Cross in England is like complaining about hot food in India!
