why do we somehow think they know it all and are some kind of superior "race" that know more about the human mind than we do..
take philosophy for example it acknowledges the human mind and all of its complexities and tries to explore as much as possible and leaves each philosopher each to their own
whilst psych tries to categorise and be "scientific" that is not possible there is nothing "scientific" about the way our own minds tick!
there is no way to categorise and compartamentalise the human mind, and we think that psychs know what tthey are talking about... huh?? contradictory or what!

Nobody thinks they are superior. Study after study has been done and sometimes in those studies they find patterns that can be used in a healing process.

Psychologists usually don't claim to know why some of these things work.

Why do they make you so angry? Sounds personal.

While each human mind is vastly different so is each human body. The medical community could just say, 'well we are all different so we can't help anyone'. But rather they tried to study the things we have in common and learn how to use that knowledge to benefit us all.

The psychological community is doing the same thing only they are a relative new field still, most of the research on the mind has not been done, most of it can never be done, but the only way to try is to try. There are many discovers about bipolar disorder, stress, depression, paranoia, schizophrenia and many more that we now have treatments for. They don't always work but the fact that they work sometimes does prove that psychology does have a purpose.

I don't believe that psychologists are experts of the human mind. I think they are explorers of the mind and have merely come up with various ideas on how it works. It is a discipline that is still in its infancy. All science needs time to develop. The amazing technologies we have today didn't spring up with the first transistor. It takes time.

I guess you could listen to one that specializes and has studied certain behaviours and responses to different life situations/conditions....but you are right that no psychologists is going to know my mind and thoughts better than me. Then again I'm not stereotypically crazy/mad or dealing with any kind of mental distress (for the moment anyway) :o).
