I think one reason is because both parents are forced to go to work due to the economy which is leaving the family a last priority therefore our children are in the streets.

our government seems to have trouble looking at the big picture. they don't seem to see the connection between a good education and avoiding crime. usually, if you are getting a good education and you see hope in your future, you don't want to mess it up by being put in jail. on the other hand, if your school is awful or if there isn't a school around, how are you gonna learn what you need to know to get a job? you might as well make money in some other way, and if you end up in jail, well, at least you don't have to worry about paying the rent or buying food for yourself.
if our education system was greatly improved our crime rates would go down significantly. its really sad that our government doesn't understand this connection.

More people are working hard listening to rap and trying to get into jail than are interested in going to school. Government simply spends the money where the need is and the government does not deny school or jail to anyone.

The reason jails are being built is to house all the gang members, rapists and murderers coming into the country as illegal aliens.

The reason schools are being closed is because of the children of illegal aliens that we now have to educate for free. Communities are hard pressed financially and have to consolidate their schools.

The government has no priorities. Our tax dollars are needed for schools and dealing with getting help for inmates with substance and other problems. Building more jails is just not the answer.

Unfortunately it is a sign of our times. The public education system in this country is in total dissaray. The mis-management of funds is perhaps the biggest contributor. Do your part to educate others and look for leaders that share your concerns and perhaps we can all work together to fix things.

so long they offer the inmates a second chance in reeducating them. jail could realy set a person strait, if for that.
