Miscarriage rate has nothing to do with whether this is your first or 40th pregnancy. Pregnancies very often end in miscarriage. It's estimated that about 30% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Years ago women may not have even noticed because the majority of these miscarriages happen in the earliest stages. Women may simply have thought they they had a late or particularly heavy period.
Today, over the counter pregnancy tests can detect pregnancies at extremely early stages when the pregnancy is technically only a "chemical" pregnancy. A woman may not even be 4 or 5 weeks pregnant when a pregnancy test can detect the pregnancy. This is great from the perspective that you can begin taking proper care of yourself and your baby. But it does mean that it's still quite likely that the pregnancy may end early.
Although a high incidence of prior abortions may be correlated with problems during pregnancy for some women, I don't think there is any legitimate research to show that prior abortions, if done by a doctor in a medical setting, result in higher miscarriage rates.

NO, sorry to say that your friend is very ignorant, or she either must have had many abortions causing her to miscarriage when she wanted to keep a baby, as after an many abortions, your uterus tends to get weaker and weaker not being able to hold the baby... But, most first pregnancies, are the same as any other, as long as you do not have any medical condition which may put you at risk of a miscarriage. I would be careful with that friend, it sounds like she might be jealous or something, I do not see why you would tell someone that you love or care about such an discouraging thing especially knowing that you are pregnant.. Girl, enjoy your pregnancy, glow, and love that belly, good luck.

Nope. Family history and your own health play the biggest role. My mother has 2 sisters. None of them had a miscarriage. My mom had 2 girls that had no miscarriages. One only had boys. One had 1 girl (cousin) and she had a miscarriage with her 2nd pregnancy. My brother's wives haven't miscarried, nor have my two good friends from highschool. So don't get scared over a theory. Just eat healthy, excersice, and take your vitamins. Stress does nothing but upset you.

I lost my first pregnancy and so did a couple of my cousins. Maybe there is something to that but I never heard of it as a fact. I'll be interested to see what others have to say about it.
